Susan Kay
Artist S.H.Kay aims to evoke an experience. Susan's intention is to open a window and leave wide a pathway to the deeper meaning within. This soft and eloquently expressed decision invites the viewer to become the key to the work. Of course, what you are likely to experience, reflected in her ever changing states of the sea, could be as varied as the weather and as deep as the oceans themselves.
Colour and the removal of all intricate detail is what pulls our eye in past the distractions of the surface. She creates a thinning of the veil. Coaxes a mist to rise within the paint. The ideas appear past the surface of the canvas, encapsulated within the awesome tug of the tides. Through tension, heavy, solemn and yet full of hope we are held in her containment. This peace. This the inner place Susan Kay creates. This is what makes her work so timeless and provocative.
This collection of work will be the sum of her 3rd solo show entitled 'Song'. It's as steady and consistent as it is light and playful. An inspired exhibition in which, due to it's title, suggests an almost heavenly appearance of sound within the work. Through the medium of digital imaging, pastels and oil painting, these seascapes reveal Susan Kay is an artist on her own journey too. It is such a privilege to experience the emergence of this place she is unveiling. A classic, glassy edge with a lovable, naive, retro modern twist.
